Saverio Cecere (Santa Paolina, Italy, 1951) is an artist associated with Constructivism and the MADÍ movement, whose career unfolded across Venezuela, Argentina, and Italy. He arrived in Venezuela in 1954 when his family settled in Maracay, where he trained at the School of Fine Arts and first encountered the Venezuelan avant-garde movements. In 1968 he founded the group Dubeca, through which he produced his earliest Constructivist works, exhibited in galleries in Maracay and Caracas.
His national profile grew in 1970, when he was invited by the National Institute of Culture and Fine Arts (INCIBA) to take part in the travelling exhibition Seven Contemporary Venezuelans, alongside figures such as Mateo Manaure, Alirio Rodríguez, and Gerd Leufert. Over the course of his career he extended his activity to Argentina and Italy, where he co-founded the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Plata and the MADÍ associations of both countries.
His work has been featured in significant international exhibitions, including Nine Modern Venezuelan Masters (MADI Museum, Dallas, 2004), in which he participated alongside Soto and Cruz-Diez, and the commemorative show marking the anniversary of the city of La Plata, presenting sixty works from the collection of the Museum of Latin American Contemporary Art (MACLA, Argentina, 2006).
