Alberto Giacometti (b. 1901, Borgonovo, Switzerland – d. 1966, Chur, Switzerland) was a Swiss sculptor and painter, one of the most important artists of the 20th century. His work is known for its elongated and slender human figures, which convey fragility and isolation.
Influenced by surrealism and existentialism, Giacometti sought to capture the essence and presence of the human being in its purest form. His work has been crucial to modern sculpture, with iconic pieces such as Walking Man .
