Otto Freundlich (b. 1878, Stolp, Germany – d. 1943, Auschwitz, Poland) was a German sculptor and painter, a pioneer of abstract art and a leading exponent of Expressionism and Constructivism. His work explored geometric abstraction with a spiritual and utopian focus.
Freundlich fell victim to Nazism due to his Jewish roots and his art, which was considered “degenerate.” His work includes monumental sculptures and paintings with organic forms and pure colors, which sought universal harmony and a message of peace.
