The Memory of the Line

At Imaginart Gallery we are inaugurating the first exhibition in Catalonia dedicated to the artist Zoulikha Bouabdellah, with her work in such emblematic and international collections as the Centre Georges Pompidou, the MUSAC, the Tatxo Benet Forbidden Art Collection, the Mathaf Arab Museum of Modern Art in Qatar, the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, and the Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno in Las Palmas, which dedicated a monographic exhibition to her in 2016.

“The Memory of the Line” presents Bouabdellah’s most recent work. The artist questions dichotomous worldviews with the collage series “Fil Rouge,” in which she combines iconic European paintings with Eastern motifs. In this way, she establishes a dialogue between seemingly opposing traditions that invites us to rethink the way we look at images.

In the works shown at Imaginart, the artist also draws from this perspective to reflect on the female body and its representation throughout art history. In paintings like “Sang d’encre,” she explores the lines between concepts like desire and violence.
