Carlos Cruz-Díez (b. 1923, Caracas, Venezuela – d. 2019, Paris, France) was a Venezuelan artist recognized as one of the great exponents of kinetic art. His work focuses on the exploration of color as an autonomous and dynamic reality that changes depending on the viewer’s point of view and the light.
Cruz-Díez developed innovative visual systems based on perception, creating installations and murals that generate vibrant and constantly evolving optical effects. His work contributed decisively to the theory and practice of optical and kinetic art in Latin America and around the world.
