Etel Adnan (b. 1925, Beirut, Lebanon – d. 2021, Paris, France) was a multidisciplinary artist recognized for her poetry, painting, and essays, which combine Eastern tradition with Western avant-garde movements. Of Lebanese and Syrian origin, she developed much of her career in the United States and Europe, writing in Arabic, French, and English.
His pictorial work is characterized by vibrant, abstract landscapes, with intense colors that evoke nature and the cosmos, reflecting a spiritual and contemplative vision. In his poetry, Adnan explores themes such as identity, exile, memory, and violence, influenced by his personal experience in contexts of war and diaspora.
In addition to her literary and visual work, she was an active advocate for human rights and peace, integrating her social commitment into her artistic creation. Her work has been internationally recognized and exhibited in major museums and galleries, consolidating her position as an essential voice in global contemporary art.
