Henri Matisse (b. 1869, Le Cateau-Cambrésis, France – d. 1954, Nice, France) was a French painter and sculptor, one of the leaders of Fauvism and a leading figure in modern art. His work is notable for its bold use of color, formal simplicity, and compositional harmony.
Matisse explored diverse techniques, from painting to collage, and created iconic works such as Dance and The Open Window . Throughout his life, he maintained a constant dialogue between figuration and abstraction, influencing generations of artists.
