Artist
Jean Dubufett
Painter and sculptor
Jean Dubuffet (b. 1901, Le Havre, France – d. 1985, Paris, France) was a French painter and sculptor, founder of the Art Brut movement, which valued art created outside the official academic and cultural sphere. His work is characterized by a rough aesthetic, with thick textures and a naive style that challenges traditional conventions.
Dubuffet explored spontaneity, irrationality, and primitive expressiveness, drawing inspiration from children’s drawings and folk art. His sculptures and paintings question the boundaries between art and everyday life, and his legacy has influenced numerous contemporary movements.
