Octavio Herrera (Campo Carabobo, Venezuela, 1952) is an artist associated with geometric abstraction and contemporary kinetic art. He trained at the Rafael Monasterios School of Visual and Applied Arts in Maracay, where he later also taught. Between 1973 and 1977 he worked as a graphic designer before moving to Paris to continue his studies at the Université Paris 8 Vincennes–Saint Denis, where he earned a degree in Arts and Humanities.
His arrival in Paris coincided with a period of intense activity in kinetic art, op art, and movements derived from geometric abstraction. In this context, he came into contact with artists such as Jesús Rafael Soto, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Victor Vasarely, and Julio Le Parc, with some of whom he worked as an assistant. From then on, his work developed in dialogue with optical and kinetic research, as well as with the circle of Galerie Denise René, with whom he collaborated between 1982 and 1989.
Throughout his career, he has taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions in more than fifteen countries, and his work has been shown in institutions such as the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid. His practice explores visual perception through geometry, color, transparency, and the interaction of forms in space.
