Takashi Murakami (b. 1962, Tokyo, Japan) is a contemporary Japanese artist known for combining traditional Japanese art with pop culture and manga, creating a style called “superflat.” His work encompasses painting, sculpture, fashion and design.
Murakami explores the superficiality and cultural depth of Japan, with colorful images, cartoonish characters, and a bright aesthetic. He has collaborated with global brands and brought Japanese pop art to the international stage, making him one of the most influential contemporary artists.
