Edvard Munch (b. 1863, Loten, Norway – d. 1944, Oslo, Norway) was a Norwegian painter and printmaker, a precursor of Expressionism. His work is marked by the profound exploration of human emotions, such as anxiety, death and loneliness.
His most famous painting, The Scream , is a universal icon of modern art that reflects existential anguish. Munch used intense colors and distorted shapes to convey psychological states, influencing numerous generations of Expressionist and modern artists.
